The MES Alumni Association conducted a Memorial Event on 21st March 2022 in honor of the Late B.K. Mohammed Kunhi who served as the Principal of MES Indian School for 23 years from 1978 to 2001. His is a name most cherished and revered in the history of the school, as it was during his tenure as Principal that MES grew from a small school of few hundred students to unprecedented heights of close to 10,000 students at the time of his retirement
Various current and former members of the Teaching Staff as well as the Alumni graced the occasion to relive his memories. The event was hosted by Alumnus Raasum Sait (Batch of 2002) who passionately took the attendees down the lane of what it means to be a proud student of a school that was led by the dynamic personality that B.K. Kunhi was.
The Welcome Address was given by MES Alumni Vice-President Fazil Hameed (Batch of 2002) in which he fittingly stated that B.K. Kunhi is not just a hero, but a legend that never dies, as his efforts continue to live on in the school.
President of the Alumni Association, Shaheen Mohammad Shafi (Batch of 1995) addressed the gathering with an Audio-Visual Tribute that chronicled B.K. Maash (Master)’s, as he was fondly called, journeyed from his hometown until he arrived in Qatar to spearhead one of the largest CBSE schools outside of India.
The MES President Mr. K Abdul Kareem and Vice-President Mr. AP Khaleel also took to the stage to speak fondly of their respective experiences of the brilliant academician and astute manager that he was. This was followed by anecdotes and personal accounts shared by esteemed members of current and former teaching staff.
These included Mrs. Nasreen Khan, Mr. Samad Khan, and Mr. Siraj Ahmad which got many of the attendees emotional yet feeling proud and fortunate to have worked and been associated with such a great personality.
The nest part of the evening was the Elocution Competition for MES Students hosted by DTM Manzoor Moideen. The young speakers were from two categories and had to speak on the topic – How can Online Teaching be More Effective?
All the young orators spoke with fervent enthusiasm, and the winners were 1st prize Aaesha Fathima Basheer, 2nd prize Muhammed Rabee Abdul Azeez and 3rd prize Daina Mariam Renish from the Junior Category, and 1st prize Souparnika S Rajkumar, 2nd prize Abdul Rahman Hazem and 3rd prize Angeline James from the Senior Category.
The event came to a close with the Vote of Thanks proposed by MES Alumni General Secretary Akbar Ali Khan (Batch of 2002) who thanked all present for attending the event to pay homage to the Late B.K. Mohammed Kunhi for making it a memorable experience.
