The MES Alumni recently organized an impressive open house event in conjunction with Flaming Spirits Toastmasters and Talking Matters Toastmasters clubs on the 6th of March 2022. The event, which was conducted at the Mavericks 365 hall in Icono View, Holiday Villa had an abundant turnout of ex-MES students looking to become Toastmasters aspirants.
Although it followed the format of a Demo Toastmasters Meeting, the evening turned out to be a mini-Reunion of sorts, with many ex-students having had the chance to catch up after years and socialize with one another.
Pooja George, Area 9 Secretary, an ex-MES student of the 2003 batch, delivered a motivational Prepared Speech – titled, The Big Question, which challenged the inhibitions one has to break through in life and to take brave steps forward to achieve what one wants.
The next session of the evening was Table Topics – an exercise where guests and members are randomly selected to think on their feet and speak on an impromptu topic for 1-2 minutes and were brilliantly conducted by the Table Topics Master – Smitha Abraham (MES?? Batch??). The questions chosen by her were very engaging and relatable in nature, and she put every participant at ease knowing they were unrehearsed.
Grammarian, Abhina Pradeep presented her meticulous vocabulary observations of the evening, including the frequency of the usage of the Word of the Day – Anticipate, and any other distinctive phrases, idioms, or unique words that the speakers of the day had used. She was so observant that she even pointed out an instance when a speaker had the opportunity to use the WOD – Anticipate, but used predict/expect instead.
Presiding Officer, Pradeep Menon spoke about the benefits of joining a Toastmasters Club and provided further details on how to Join the club. The MESAA Toastmasters Chapter was officially launched with (names, designations, and batches)
The event was concluded with lively banter and spirited discussions on how well everyone spoke and how enthusiastic they are to join MESAA Toastmasters. This was followed by a picture-taking session with props from the photo booth.
As TM (insert name) rightfully said, “The MES ex-student body is a vital part of the landscape of Qatar, and are Ambassadors of India!”, which is a statement that any ex-MES students should feel proud of.
